Aromas of ripe cherries, crushed petals, spices and a hint of licorice. Three years in barrel have only begun to soften this wine. This robust wine has spent a decade in the cellar, aging gracefully.

The nose shows ripe blackberry, currant, and hucklberry, along with a hint of eucalyptus. The rich fruit palate combines with French oak to display complex notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, tobacco and a hint of clove. The soft and luxurious tannins give this wine a refined structure with great aging potential.

A focused and well structured wine, the 2017 Petite Sirah has deep, rich aromas of black cherries, baking spice, and licorice giving way to violets and a rustic touch of earthiness. In the glass, this spicy, blue-black Petite Sirah reveals an expressive range of flavors, from blackberry and forest raspberry to ripe blueberries and notes of gaminess and black pepper.

The extensive hang time of this vintage has created for us, a uniquely ripe wine, but because of the length of ripening it is deeply layered. There are the telltale fresh red fruits, but they are strongly mingled with dried cranberries, rose petals, and freshly split cherry wood. The endurance of the High Ground’s natural acidity makes the aromas vacillate from plums, strawberries and dates to cinnamon, cedar and a touch of leather.

2018 was an exceptionally long and late vintage and that is immediately evident in the ripe bold character of this Syrah. Although this wine does have our Syrah’s typical violets, white pepper, and leather, the fruit is decidedly darker giving way to ripe blackberries, and fig. The tannins are gripping at first but lengthen as they melt on the palate. Two years in barrel have added to the palate aromas of vanilla, cedar, and clove.

Although this wine does have the violets, white pepper, and leather typical of our Syrahs, the fruit is decidedly darker, giving way to ripe blackberries, and fig. Please pair with something savory, and I’m just thinking out loud here, a carefully reduced berry balsamic sauce.

A bold yet elegant Pinot Noir with aromas of ripe boysenberry, elderberry entwined with the dark, enigmatic sweetness of dried currants, and a tartness that only pomegranate can evoke. On the palate, a Moroccan spice market of clove, cardamom, a hint of star anise, and surprisingly, a finish of rose flavored Turkish delight. Yet this wine doesn’t forget where it’s from with dark undertones of a Redwood grove and wet pine needle.

Wightman House is a heritage property proudly showcasing one of the original plantings of Pinot Noir in the Anderson Valley. These old vines ripen less than 2 tons/acre of tiny clusters bursting with flavors of red cherry, blood orange peel, vanilla, and if you lean in closely a hint of Medjool dates. The oak adds notes of cedar, freshly shaved nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon. It’s hard to tell if this Pinot comes from old Italy or Anderson Valley.
